I just updated my iPod Touch to the 2.0 Firmware..
YES im happy apple opened up the app store in Singapore so that i can actually Buy it from them rather than the old school not so simple and not so legal way of obtaining updates.
So long with the new 2.0 also comes the 5 softwares from iphone (which apple forget to release worldwide at january)
So i was fooling around with the new firmware.. and here are the best thing that was added.
A) Chinese Input using HYPY and HandWriting

Yes.. finally chinese input… if this works well i may get a iphone 3G for my dad.
B) Remote
Remote is a Add on App that is free from iTunes Store. So what does it do?
as the name goes. it allows users to control their itunes that is in their computer from the iPod Touch.
Wth am i talking about?
meaning you can have your computer on. ur Itunes playing songs Loudly somewhere and you can choose to change the song playing.. volume.. view playlists.. album arts… basically all the whole library on ur ipod..

Yeah… impressive..
With this test out on my iPod Touch.. i cant wait for iPhone 3G.
till then

When i was going home this afternoon while i am still at the MRT platform at Dover.. i met francis and YongZheng. Long time never talk to Francis.. o.O O.o Anyway.. reached home at around 1pm.. was watching MADtv on my iPod. not a bad episode i must say…
o.O so i reached home… and started stoning.. then came the urge to fix my old com once again… and this time i decided to give Linux a shot at my HDD… so i burned out the iso of Ubuntu 7.10.. tested the disc on my MCE… it was bootable.. and it went straight into a Live environment where i can fully try out the features of Ubuntu before really deciding to install it..
so i removed the disc and rebooted into Vista.. and went to the living room to install it on my old com.. and… it cant! wtf? i inserted the disc in.. it detects and boot to the menu selection screen.. but after i choose start Ubuntu/Install. the Ubuntu will start the Linux kernel and then.. hang…. it just cant get into the Live environment like when i placed the disc into my MCE… o.O
i googled desperately for solutions and what other people suggested is to use the text based installer instead. so i have to re-download the alternate disc for Ubuntu. 700mb iso. took about 10 minutes i think.. DAP really rocks.. it capped my download.. actually it overflowed.. it went over 15000kbps.. i am using a 10mbps connection..
So i burned out the iso again.. using infra recorder.. infra recorder is one of the best open sourced burning software that will put power iso, nero out of business… recording speed is super fast too.. simple UI..
After that i bought the disc back outside to try.. and it still cant!! wtf? so i tested the disc with my MCE.. and it shows corruption in the iso.. cause i tried to mount the image in daemon tools and it shows error… hmmm… LL have to redownload again..reburned and retried.. ALSO CANT!!! wtf?
Wits end.. decided to give up on my old com for now… i am now looking for WinXP Pro Enterprize with SP2 disc… anyone can spare me… lolx… but i still haben given up on Ubuntu yet.. so i googled for emulation.. at first i wanted to do a persistent boot and install of Ubuntu on my 4gb ThumbDrive.. but i tot better of it…
went around the internet and googled for Virtual machines emulation.. tried out QEMU.. donnno how to use leh.. even with step by step guide i still cant follow.. omg tell me i suG… then i remembered back in school when i was doing Operating System.. the school uses VMware Server. so i went to VMware homepage to Download it..
clicked around and came to VMplayer.. a free and simplified version of VMware Workstation. decided to give it a try.. and the outcome?

Perfect Virtual Machine of Ubuntu on my Windows Vista…
and i must say Ubuntu is much more simple and powerful then SUSE Linux that i learnt in school.
Fun i must say… but i actually wanted to do a dual boot with Vista instead of virtual machine.. but… i guess iĺl leave that on other days…
till then..

I was kind of sick of bringing my notebook to school… “why so?” you may ask… well.. i have to admit that having your own computer and not using the school’s weak and slow com is a good… having a computer without adminstrative restriction is also a great help.. allowing to do what you want.. you can watch videos, play games, listen to music, save files as and when you like without the fear of losing it.. ( if you are in SP.. you will know that the M: drive is not permenant and is emptied everytime u log out.)
but some people (me) is sick of bringing the heavy notebook to school… and using purely for entertainment in lectures is not a very good reason why i should continue to bring that near to 4kg thing… So people seek alternative… using Wifi Enabled handheld devices like Mobile Phones… PDAs… Even the new and Fancy iPod Touch (which i am using..)
Some may argue that using an external storage, be it a thumb drive or an external HDD, can solve the problem of saving files in school computers.. but you cant install what you like on the school’s computer you know… wont it be just great if you can just run applications straight from your external storage? run programs like “messenger”, “FileZilla”, “FireFox”, How about LAN seeding to your friend using “uTorrent” or “Azerues”?
Its not a dream… its technology…
Today i bought a new thumb Drive… its 4GB.. and it cost me 58 SGD.. i was planning to use it as a mean to transfer files to my friends from home.. bringing that big external 3.5inch hdd is not a very good option either.. However.. when i reached home.. i realised the TD is pre-installed with this software called “U3″.. and i seriously hate it…
U3 creates a imaginary disc drive and auto boot up when the drive is plug in.. yes U3 provides the basic softwares like skype and even AntiVirus. however i just hate it as it didnt give me any other controls or choice if i might say so.. forcing me to agree to a End User License Agreement… so i went to google and type in “U3″.. read a little from the official web.. and other links.. and realised there is actually a better Software.. better.. free.. and open source.. and its called PortableApps suite.. and i managed to uninstall “U3″ after aquiring a software from the U3 developer..
PortableApps Suite.
This is new technology to me… i’ve played around with it nearly whole day… and installed quite a few apps in it.. things like FireFox, open office etc.. however despite it being opensource.. it as some shortcoming. you still need to depend quite heavily on the computer you are using. you can only install apps that are deem “portable” (see the homepage for more detail).
I wanted something more.
and so the first thing that came to my mind is…. Linux OS.
yes i wanted to run Linux on my thumbdrive.. after googling i found that there are 2 ways that can make it happen. 1) install a distro of Linux on this thumb drive and make it bootable.. 2) use something like a virtual machine..
after more reading… i found a software called QEMU.. its a VM software… opensource.. while i did learn linux in my school.. i didnt wanted to be so ambitious on my first attempt.. so i downloaded a distro of linux called Puppy Linux.. combined with QEMU.. i was able to successfully install and Run Puppy Linux on top of my Windows Vista as a Virtual Machine.
A good start i must say.. but i am more interested in installing SUSE or UBUNTU on it instead.. will do it if i have time soon..
So the picture below shows the outcome of today’s fooling around with my new thumb drive..
Linux on top of my Vista.. and PortableApps Menu showing the softwares i have installed on the thumbdrive..

I’m Having Fun…
and i need someone to help me burn out the image of Ubuntu installation disc…
Till then..

PS: i forgot to add… if you are running firefox from pA the host com will have no idea where u went.. it leaves absoulutely no trace of history and cookie.. everything is on the thumb drive..
